Can you get sick from cooked pasta that you store for more than two days?
It is possible to get sick from cooked pasta that is stored for more than two days, especially if it has not been stored properly.
Cooked pasta can contain bacteria such as Bacillus cereus. This bacteria is commonly found in starchy foods such as pasta and rice. When pasta is not refrigerated properly or is stored for too long, the bacteria can multiply and produce toxins that can cause food poisoning.
Symptoms of a Bacillus cereus infection can range from nausea and vomiting to diarrhea and abdominal pain, usually within a few hours of consumption. The risk increases if cooked pasta is stored at room temperature or is not refrigerated properly.
To reduce the risk, it is important to refrigerate cooked pasta within two hours of cooking and consume it within two days. In addition, reheat the pasta thoroughly before eating it again.
