Can you lose weight with psyllium?
Psyllium is said to help with weight loss, but it is not a direct solution to losing weight. Psyllium is a soluble fiber that comes from the seeds of the Plantago ovata plant. It is often used as a supplement to support digestion.
Psyllium absorbs water and expands in your stomach, making you feel fuller for longer. This can lead to eating less and having fewer snacks. Psyllium promotes healthy bowel movements and can reduce constipation. A well-functioning digestive system is important for weight management.
By slowing the absorption of carbohydrates, psyllium can reduce spikes in your blood sugar levels. This helps prevent energy crashes and sugar cravings. Because psyllium is low in calories yet still makes you feel full, it can help reduce your overall calorie intake.
Although psyllium can help with weight loss, it only works when combined with a healthy diet and regular exercise. Also, excessive use can lead to side effects such as bloating, flatulence or, in extreme cases, constipation if not taken with enough water.
Psyllium can support weight loss by making you feel fuller for longer and improving digestion. However, it is not a miracle cure and should be part of a balanced lifestyle.
