Does vinegar work against scabies?
Vinegar is sometimes suggested as a home remedy for scabies, but there is no scientific evidence that vinegar is effective against scabies mites. Scabies is a parasitic infection that can only be successfully treated with prescription medications.
Scabies mites burrow deep into the skin, where they feed and lay eggs. Vinegar can irritate the surface of the skin, but it is not able to kill the mites or eliminate their eggs. Although vinegar has a mild antibacterial effect, it is not powerful enough to combat parasites such as scabies mites.
Scabies should be treated with medications prescribed by a doctor, such as permethrin cream. This commonly used cream is effective against scabies mites. Ivermectin, an oral medication, is prescribed in certain cases.
In addition, it is important to wash clothing, bedding, and towels at high temperatures to prevent re-infestation.
