Is camu camu useful for defatting the liver?
Camu camu is a fruit known for its high vitamin C and antioxidant content, and is sometimes touted for potential health benefits, including improving liver health. However, the scientific evidence to specifically state that camu camu is effective at defatting the liver is limited.
Camu camu is high in vitamin C, polyphenols, and flavonoids, which are antioxidants and have anti-inflammatory properties. These properties may help protect liver cells from oxidative stress and inflammation, which contribute to fatty liver disease (such as nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, NAFLD).
There are currently only limited studies that have specifically examined the effect of camu camu on fatty liver disease. While the antioxidants in the fruit may be beneficial for the liver, there is no solid clinical evidence to show that camu camu directly helps defat the liver.
While camu camu may have a beneficial effect on liver health due to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, there is currently insufficient scientific evidence to specifically recommend it as a means of defatting the liver. For people with fatty liver disease, dietary changes, exercise, and medical treatment are the main strategies to improve the condition.
