Can raw milk boost your immune system?
Some people believe that raw milk, which has not been pasteurized, still contains all the natural nutrients and enzymes that can contribute to better health and a stronger immune system.
Raw milk advocates claim that it contains enzymes and probiotic bacteria that are destroyed by the pasteurization process, and that these can aid in digestion and strengthen gut health, which could indirectly improve immunity.
Raw milk is also said to have a higher nutritional value, as it preserves vitamins and minerals that can be partially lost during pasteurization.
While raw milk may have some benefits, there are also significant risks. Raw milk can contain harmful bacteria such as Salmonella, E. Coli and Listeria, which can cause serious food poisoning, especially in vulnerable groups such as children, pregnant women, the elderly and people with weak immune systems.
Pasteurization is a process that heats milk to kill harmful pathogens while retaining most of the nutrients.
While some people believe that raw milk can boost immunity due to its natural nutrients, there is no strong scientific evidence to support this. However, drinking raw milk does carry a significant risk of serious infections.
