How to deal with penopause?

Menopause, also known as andropause, refers to the age-related decline in testosterone in men. Although not as abrupt as menopause in women, menopause can lead to physical and emotional symptoms such as fatigue, decreased libido, muscle loss, mood swings, and erectile dysfunction.

A combination of lifestyle changes, medical treatments and emotional support are often recommended to manage menopause. These should only be considered in exceptional cases.

Zinc and vitamin D are important for testosterone production. However, supplementation with these will not affect the progression of menopause. A healthy diet, smoking cessation, moderate alcohol consumption, strength training and regular exercise are certainly recommended for everyone but will not affect menopause.

Some doctors prescribe testosterone replacement therapy. However, such treatments have more side effects than benefits. Testosterone replacement therapy can even suppress your own testosterone production, which can lead to breast development.

If erectile dysfunction is a problem, medications such as sildenafil (Viagra) or other treatments may be prescribed. Talk to your partner about what you are going through. Many symptoms of menopause can affect relationships, and communication can help to promote mutual understanding and support.
