Does a Smart Ring like an Oura Ring have health benefits?
Smart rings like the Oura ring provide information on sleep monitoring, stress management and general health insights, but there is no scientific evidence for their health benefits.
These rings use sensors to measure heart rate, heart rate variability, body temperature and sleep stages. By analyzing this data, they provide insight into daily well-being and healthy habits.
The ring tracks different sleep stages (deep sleep, REM sleep and light sleep) and measures how long you sleep. By providing insight into your sleep quality and quantity, your sleep quality will not immediately improve. On the contrary, many people will worry about their sleep quality when this was not necessary.
The ring measures heart rate variability (HRV), an indicator of the balance between stress and recovery. A higher HRV can indicate better physical and mental resilience, while a low HRV can indicate stress or fatigue. By recognizing the stressful periods, anxiety will occur rather than change.
In addition to sleep, the Oura ring also measures daily activities, such as the number of steps and the intensity of physical exertion. This can help set and achieve exercise goals, which contributes to physical health and fitness.
The Oura ring measures subtle changes in body temperature. Changes in temperature can indicate infections or other health problems, but will often be meaningless.
