Wat is Thought Field Therapy?

Thought Field Therapy (TFT) is an alternative therapeutic technique developed by psychologist Roger Callahan in the 1980s.

TFT is a form of energy therapy that focuses on reducing emotional problems and fears by touching specific points on the body, similar to acupuncture, but without needles.

TFT states that emotional problems are caused by disruptions in the body's energetic fields. The therapy aims to correct these disruptions by means of specific tapping techniques on meridian points.

Therapists ask the client to imagine a specific emotional experience while tapping on these points, with the intention of reducing or neutralizing the emotional response to that memory.

The treatment often involves a combination of identifying the specific emotional problems, formulating a psychological truth (an affirmation) and tapping on the meridian points on the body in a specific order.

TFT lacks solid scientific support and evidence that it is effective for treating emotional and psychological problems. Research on the effectiveness of TFT is usually of low quality, and the results are often inconclusive.

The concepts behind TFT are not empirically substantiated and do not correspond to current scientific knowledge in psychology and neurology.
