Can stevia prevent hair loss?
There's no evidence that stevia can prevent hair loss. Animal studies have shown a benefit from the combination of stevia and minoxidine, but this hasn't yet been proven in humans.
Stevia, also known as stevioside, is a natural sweetener derived from the leaves of the Stevia rebaudiana plant. It contains compounds (steviol glycosides) that are much sweeter than sugar but provide no calories.
There are no reliable studies demonstrating that stevia prevents, reduces, or promotes hair growth. Hair loss is often influenced by factors such as genetics, hormones (such as DHT), stress, diet, and disease. Stevia does not appear to directly influence these processes.
Stevia does contain antioxidants, which theoretically could contribute to overall cell health. Replacing sugar with stevia could help regulate blood sugar and inflammation, and indirectly benefit skin and hair health. However, this is speculative and unproven.
Some websites or videos claim that stevia promotes hair growth or inhibits DHT, but these claims are not substantiated by scientific literature.
Recent research has shown that stevioside can improve the effectiveness of existing treatments like minoxidil. It works by enhancing minoxidil's ability to penetrate the skin and reach hair follicles. While these are promising preclinical results, more research is needed to confirm its benefits in humans.
