Does a bath with bleach help against COVID-19?
Bathing in bleach will not help against COVID-19 and can even be dangerous. Here are some important reasons why it is not recommended.
Bleach (sodium hypochlorite) is a strong disinfectant intended for cleaning surfaces and not for direct contact with the skin. Exposure to bleach can cause skin irritation, chemical burns, and respiratory problems. Inhalation of bleach fumes can be harmful to the respiratory tract and eyes.
COVID-19 is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which spreads through airborne droplets and contact with contaminated surfaces. Bathing in bleach will not affect viruses that are already in the body. The most important way to prevent COVID-19 is to follow guidelines from health authorities, such as wearing masks, social distancing, washing hands regularly, and getting vaccinated.
Health organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) strongly discourage the use of bleach on the body. The WHO has specifically warned against using bleach or other disinfectants on the body, as this is not effective against the virus and can be harmful.
